I am a proud IMDT accredited dog trainer (Distinction). IMDT trainers only use training methods and techniques that are games based, ethical, kind and scientifically proven, enabling you to do so much more than train your dog; you will also be providing your dog with enriching mental stimulation for their emotional well-being, and enhancing the bond between you and your dog. I spend time getting to know each dog and owner that I work with, which enables me to tailor and tweak techniques to set each partnership up for success. My work is carried out in line with IMDT Code Of Ethics. I will not ever advise, implement or tolerate the use of harsh handling, equipment that causes pain/restriction/shock/fear, intimidation tactics. If that is what you are looking for….I am NOT the trainer for you! I will, however, advise you on: your responsibilities as a dog owner, use of correct comfortable equipment, control and management suggestions to prevent dog practicing unwanted behaviours, positive reward based training exercises/concepts, playing with your dog, dog body language and communications, being your dog’s advocate and more.

So, who am I?

I am Kate Russell.

  • Accredited Dog Trainer: IMDT (Distinction), CHWI (Level 1), Happy Puppy Instructor
  • Dog Trainer: Pawsable (Autism Assistance Dogs)
  • Pet Professional Network: Gold Member
  • Fully Insured. DBS checked.

I have lived with, trained, loved and been owned by several dogs over the past 25 years. I currently share my life with Lola (6 year old German Shepherd), Fidget (5 year old German Shepherd), Fergus (2 year old Bernese Mountain Dog) and Quick (a 5 month old black and white kitten who is becoming more doglike by the day!). I have fostered many dogs for many years on behalf of a local rescue, and loved the rehabilitation and training that was required to turn some of these dogs around and prepare them for new beginnings. Every dog that I have encountered, worked with, trained or owned has taught me something new about dogs and made me delve deeper into canine behaviour and strive to achieve a better understanding of them. I am truly grateful to each one , they are the best teachers I have ever had. They are behind my drive to be committed to continuing to improve my knowledge and understanding of dogs, training, behaviour. I regularly attend courses, seminars, workshops and webinars to keep up to date with the latest research, methodology and legislation. I have been educated by a broad spectrum of providers i.e. IMDT, UKCSD, SOCS, CHW, Canine Principles, Scentwork UK, DogLaw, Dog First Aid Ltd and intend to attend and study future courses with ISCP, UK Sniffer Dogs, PPN, DoGenius, PACT and others. I research the course providers prior to booking; I like to ensure their techniques/methods/content are researched, current and ethical.  Why? I will be imparting what I learn on to you, therefore, I want to ensure I am learning from the best providers there are.
