You need to be prepared before your initial session, this includes reading up on the case history, having the right equipment and I recommend sending a pre-consultation session plan to your client prior to your session.
The pre-consultation session plan helps the client to be prepared for your session and is important for safety issues too. You don’t want a dog running up to you as you open the door, as this is not only embarrassing but also can be potentially dangerous. As a dog trainer or behaviourist you need to always think – management and control first. Whether this means meeting the owner first without the dog or the dog being in a separate room when you arrive. This is paramount to your safety and also when working with a human anxious dog will help prevent them becoming nervous or scared.
