Hi we are Abbie and Dave Broad and we would love to welcome you to Jacks Place. In June 2020 we said goodbye for the last time to our beloved Chocolate Labrador Jack. He was 12 ½ years young and despite his many physical limitations he was always a puppy at heart. Jack came into our lives in December 2008. He was placid and lovable right from the start. Like most labs he loved food and walking in all weathers (except when it was really hot) and our fondest memories of him were watching him splash through every piece of water he came across from puddles to lakes to the sea.
At the age of 18 months Jack was diagnosed with severe epilepsy and from that day on we knew he would need special attention and care. All dogs deserve to live their best life. They deserve attention, exercise and boundaries. They deserve to be cared for, not pampered and they deserve to receive the same love and trust from us as we expect from them.
Reluctant to replace Jack with a new family pet, we decided to set up Jacks Place. We understand just how hard it is to find someone you can trust to look after your senior pet. Someone who understands all their funny little ways and who will give them the full attention they deserve.
Like people, as dogs get older they become set in their ways and changes in surroundings and routine can be hard. Just like us they can also become less tolerant of others and prefer peace and quiet and a slower pace. Even the most devoted dog owners need a break sometimes. Holidays away, special events, weddings and even work commitments can mean added stress as you begin to search for someone to take care of your dog.
Here at Jacks Place we will care for your senior pet just as you would want us to. We take special care to get to know your pet, understand their routines, their habits, their likes and dislikes and will do everything we can to give them a safe and loving home from home experience. Its never going to be quite the same as being with you, but we will do our best to make sure they feel comfortable and most of all, loved. We can cater for most needs, such as special dietary requirements, medication and exercise routines. As well as all those little habits that dogs just love to have. Jack had so many weird things he would do. And in his later years as dementia crept in – he was almost on a loop. Senior dogs in particular rely on these routines for comfort and we ‘get it’.
Because of this we commit to take only one dog at a time, unless from the same house. You can rest assured your pet will have our undivided love and attention. We are fully insured, training in pet first aid and have a 4star rating from our local council as well as a 2 year boarding license. We have a comprehensive onboarding process which all new residents are required to complete – this is to ensure your pet is right for us – and more importantly that we will be right for them. If you are in need a safe place to send your dog while you take a well-deserved break, then please give us a call or email and see if Jacks Place can be the right place for your pet too.
We look forward to welcoming you to Jacks Place.
